Early in October, Concordia University, Nebraska hosted its 8th annual History and Geography Bowl. There were 40 teams from 24 different high schools, bringing approximately 200 students to Concordia’s campus. This year was the first that Concordia invited Lutheran high schools to come, and four teams came: Heartland Lutheran in Grand Island, St. Paul Lutheran from Concordia, MO, Lincoln Lutheran, and Concordia Omaha.

The purpose of the bowl is to bring academically minded students to Concordia’s campus. Dr. Joel Helmer, organizer of the geography bowl and chair of Concordia’s History Department, states that the students come for the geography bowl, and they leave having formed a connection to Concordia’s campus. “The coaches and students love coming to Concordia!” stated Helmer.

Champions (divided by school size):

Small School Division Winner: Heartland Lutheran, Grand Island, Neb.

Medium School Division Winner: Central City High School, Central City, Neb.

Large School Division Winner: Elkhorn High School, Elkhorn, Neb.
