Dr. Daniel Zieg teaches criminal justice and law courses at Concordia Nebraska as an adjunct instructor. Zieg earned his bachelor of arts in both political science and public administration, with a minor in business, from Buena Vista University and his Juris Doctor from the University of Nebraska, College of Law. Zieg has been a Deputy County Attorney in the Lancaster County, Nebraska Attorney’s Office since 2011.  He has been teaching at the university since 2020.

“I like the interaction with students,” he said. “I like to teach by getting a student to take a position and then arguing against them. The goal is to push them to defend their position. If they change and agree with me, then I just flip and argue the other side. So much of the criminal justice system is not black and white. I want them to see all the various shades of gray and that there isn't always an absolutely correct answer.”

Zieg said the students at Concordia Nebraska are unique and remarkable, and he enjoys his time on campus.
“It is refreshing to see young adults that are responsible and caring,” he explained. “So often I see the complete opposite and it is good to know that the future is in good hands.”

Zieg has been married to wife Valerie for nine years, and they have two sons, Elijah (4) and Logan (21 months).  Years ago, he competed in triathlons and finished full Ironman competitions.
“My hobbies have changed since our family started growing, but currently we like going to the zoo and park or building sweet Hot Wheels racetracks,” he laughed.

When he is not teaching, he works full time for the Lancaster County Attorney's Office where he run the civil division where he primarily defends Lancaster County against legal claims. He also serves on the board of directors for the Nebraska County Attorneys Association and the Bennet City Council
