Concordia Invitational Tournament (CIT) Update

Dear Bulldogs:

With the 2024 Concordia Invitational Tournament (CIT) quickly approaching, I want to address the future of this cherished event. On December 20, 2023, President Erik Ankerberg of our sister Concordia institutions of Wisconsin and Ann Arbor, sent notice that both CUW and CUAA will discontinue their participation in CIT, effective at the conclusion of the 2025 CIT.

At Concordia University, Nebraska, we are committed to carrying on the tradition of CIT and are in the process of reimagining the event, in collaboration with Concordia University Chicago. Our administration is working diligently to pursue means of continuing CIT beyond 2025. Additional details will be shared once a revised plan for CIT has been developed and agreed upon.

I have fond memories of CIT as an undergraduate student and have always been inspired by this one-of-a-kind gathering. To me, CIT has become more than an athletic tournament. It is an inspiring reminder of our shared mission in Lutheran higher education, a time to challenge, compete, collaborate and celebrate together. In my interactions with student-athletes, staff, alums and friends of the university, I have gained an even larger understanding of what CIT means to Concordia University, Nebraska. We are proud of our history of CIT success – and the honor of serving as an original participant at the very first CIT held in 1951. We believe strongly that a continuation of CIT is in the best interest of our university and our student-athletes and alumni, and we value it as an opportunity to gather with those who share our commitment to Christ-centered higher education.

I encourage our students, alumni and fans to make the journey to Mequon, Jan. 26-27, for the 2024 CIT in support of our Bulldogs.

Together in His service,

Dr. Bernard Bull
President
