On campus worship and ministry opportunities for Concordia students

Concordia University, Nebraska offers many on-campus worship and ministry opportunities for students each week during the school year, including chapel services, Bible studies and other student-led activities. 

Chapel services take place in the university’s Weller Hall at 11 a.m. Monday through Friday. Monday through Wednesday services are offered in a traditional worship format, and Divine Service with Holy Communion is offered each Wednesday. Thursday and Fridays feature services with a contemporary worship style. 

Tuesday and Thursday nights at 9 p.m., Evening Prayer is offered. These services are student-led and offer a chance for students to reset and pray with a community of believers and spend time in personal prayer after the services. These services are held in Weller Hall. 

PRAISE! is another student worship gathering on Concordia’s campus. Offered on Wednesdays at 9 p.m., PRAISE! is a contemporary worship style, student-led devotional time that offers a chance for students to pause, connect with God and be encouraged by a Christ-centered community. 

Other on-campus opportunities include The Attic, a campus-wide Bible study. This study is led by the campus chaplain, Rev. Ryan Matthias, and campus Director of Christian Education (DCE) Rebekah Freed. Concordia professors and local LCMS church workers  are featured guest speakers at this event from time to time, as well. The Attic takes place on Sunday evenings at 5:30 p.m. in Janzow Campus Center’s Cattle Conference Room. There are also a variety of student-led ministry groups such as Bulldogs4Life, Concordia Youth Ministry, Lighthouse Club and Mission-Minded Students in addition to various student-led small group Bible studies and gatherings. 

The theme verse for the 133rd academic year, chosen by Matthias and Freed is Psalm 16:11: “You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forever.” 

Throughout the year, Concordia Nebraska’s worship and ministry opportunities will examine life at Concordia through the lens of that abundant joy. The year will be a reminder to students, faculty and visitors of the joy that believers in Christ have through His presence in their lives.
