Meet Graduate Student Success Advisor Mary Mach

Mary Mach serves Concordia University, Nebraska as a graduate student success advisor providing academic advising to the early childhood education, master of business administration, master of arts in leadership, special education and literacy programs.
“I provide personalized support and guidance to graduate students throughout their academic journey,” she explained. “From course selection to understanding degree requirements and academic policies, I work closely with each student to ensure they have the resources and direction they need to thrive. I am the contact and connecting point/support during their graduate experience. I also collaborate with faculty and campus departments to support the unique needs of online graduate learners, helping them stay connected and engaged as they work toward their educational goals.”
Mach has worked in higher education for 20 years and has been with Concordia Nebraska for almost four years. She said the best thing about her service to the university is the team she is blessed to work with each day.
“We put our faith first and work so well together,” she said. “We are always striving to give the students the best experience possible.”
She said she very much appreciates a workplace that features a Christian environment and Christ-first focus.
“My favorite part of the job is new student orientations, getting to know our students and finding out what brought them to Concordia and what their goals are.”
“It was the one thing I was looking for when I left another institution where I was advising,” she said. “The Christian approach that we have here makes all the difference in solving problems and doing what's right.”
Mach said she participates in the university’s chapel worship& services often& and appreciates serving with coworkers that pray for her and encourage her daily.
“[It] has helped me become more Christlike,” she said. “I've grown in my faith and learned from& others examples.
She and her husband have been married for 40 years and have five children and seven grandchildren. She loves spending time with family, being involved in her church, golf, pickleball and all things Husker. She said she has spent the last 16 years advising students, and simply loves her job.
“It's all I want to do. My favorite part of the job is new student orientations, getting to know our students and finding out what brought them to Concordia and what their goals are,” she said. “[I love] connecting with them so they know they have someone to go to with questions and support.”
