St. Louis Area Concordia Nebraska alumni are invited to join with Habitat for Humanity and Thrivent Financial in the Old North St. Louis project near Crown Candy. Sign up now to work with your fellow alumni all day (7:45 a.m. – 4 p.m.) Saturday, Sept. 18. An end-of-day get together at a local establishment is also scheduled. Contact Alumni Council member Gerald Rapp at 314-843-3522 or gdrapp@att.net for more information. Construction volunteers can be skilled or unskilled; the most important requirement is that you must have a desire to work with a sense of humor, share the joy of being a Concordia Nebraska alum and persevere! You may also visit the HFH-STL website with information on the 30 homes planned for 2010 in the St. Louis area.

On Saturday, May 1, Concordia University, Nebraska alumni and emeriti faculty joined together to plant over 150 trees in Concordia’s new tree nursery and over 60 shrubs in Weller and Founders flower beds. Organized by the Alumni Council, this volunteer effort was repeated in California and this coming fall St. Louis Metro area alumni will be joining a Habitat for Humanity build project. [MORE]

Two Concordia alumni were among the 2010 Lutheran Education Association award winners. Alvina Chronis '74 Becker (PDF of news release) was named the LEA Distinguished Lutheran elementary teacher, and Chuck Schiller '73 (PDF of news release) was the LEA 2010 Distinguished Lutheran elementary administrator.
