Olivia Dunklau, a senior at Concordia Nebraska, is majoring in marketing and minoring in graphic design. This summer, she worked as an intern for the Lincoln Saltdogs out of Lincoln, Nebraska. The Saltdogs are a part of the American Association of Professional Baseball, a professional and official partner league of Major League Baseball

Dunklau has known and played sports her whole life and knew after graduating high school that she wanted to stay involved. At her internship, some of her duties at Haymarket Park included working in the box office, answering and making phone calls, updating inventory, selling merchandise, keeping up to date with daily and monthly reports, preparing tables for sponsors, setting up the welcome center for fans, lead in-between inning promotional games and more.

“I am truly blessed to have had the opportunity to be an intern for the Saltdogs this year,” she said. “It was such a great experience for me to learn and get a taste of what it is like working in sports. I got to work closely with general manager Shane Tritz and learn a lot on the business side of things. I also learned a lot from the rest of the staff and worked with the ticket managers, video production manager, stadium operations and the president of the team.”

Dunklau plans to take graduate school classes following graduation this upcoming spring and has goals to one day work for a professional level sports team or for a college university’s athletic department.

“One thing I will really take away from this internship will be the connections and relationships I’ve built there,” she said. “Working with different people and being adaptable is important, and I got to experience that this summer. It has been a very rewarding experience and I truly enjoyed it.”
