Program Highlights


With an M.A. degree in School Counseling from Concordia University, you will find a distinctive blend of faith-based instruction and real-world experience. You’ll also: 

  • Strengthen modern counseling by drawing on and emphasizing holistic, Scripture-based perspectives. 
  • Learn directly from professionals who bring decades of experience in school counseling at public, private and Christian schools, and at mental health and therapy clinics. 
  • Acquire in-depth, real-world experience through a 100-hour practicum, then apply what you’ve learned in a 450-hour supervised internship at the PK-6 grade level (225 hours) and the 7-12 grade level (225 hours).

Degree Goals

A graduate of Concordia University’s School Counseling master’s degree will be able to:   

  • Develop, implement, manage and evaluate comprehensive programs for PK–12 academic development, college and career readiness and social and emotional development. 
  • Collaborate with stakeholders one-on-one or in small groups to advocate and support students’ academic achievement; personal, social and emotional development; and career development. 
  • Apply knowledge of educational systems, philosophies and current trends in education to offer risk assessment and intervention strategies for a multitude of crises.

  • Assist students with any school-related issues they have, including selecting classes, dealing with academic difficulties and social problems. 
  • Help students develop academic goals and manage personal, social and behavioral issues.  


  • Guide children through academic, personal, parental and social pressures.  
  • Be a resource for students and help them reach their full potential by acting as an advocate for their mental health and educational advancement.
