Rev. Jonathan Rusnak accepted a Call to Concordia University, Nebraska in 2024 as an assistant professor of theology. He brings more than a decade of pastoral ministry experience, having served congregations in Garrison, Minnesota, (Shepherd of the Lake Lutheran Church, 2011–2016) and Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, (Pilgrim Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2016–2024). At Concordia, he currently teaches Old Testament and Faith and Life, with a primary interest in doctrinal theology rooted in Scripture and the Lutheran Confessions.
Rev. Rusnak earned a B.A. from Concordia University, River Forest (2005) and both an M.Div. (2010) and S.T.M. (2014) from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis. He also studied abroad at Westfield House in Cambridge, England (2003, 2007–2008), and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in doctrinal theology. His dissertation explores Spirit Christology as a lens for understanding Johann Gerhard’s Loci Theologici.
Outside the classroom, Rev. Rusnak plays trumpet for worship services at St. John Lutheran Church in Seward, enjoys exploring Nebraska and cherishes time with his wife, Julie, and their four children.

With a degree in theology from Concordia Nebraska, you will learn to think and read critically, speak clearly and persuasively, and better understand how religious convictions shape us ethically as members of the human community. Studying Christian theology helps you consider both historical and contemporary questions related to theological and religious thought to enhance your awareness of religious beliefs and practices among different cultures.
