The role of worship in campus life

Worship is an integral part of the church because it allows the congregation to jointly celebrate and proclaim their faith. It is an integral part of Concordia University, Nebraska for the same reason. Giving students opportunities to collectively celebrate and proclaim their faith strengthens both the community and their faith. From daily chapel to within the classroom to extra worship opportunities, the university’s Lutheran identity is consistently clear and present.

Daily chapel is a vital part of campus and student life. With the offering of both traditional and contemporary services, as well as Holy Communion, there are worship opportunities for all of Concordia’s students. In addition, all of Concordia’s choral ensembles sing in worship once a semester. This both enhances the worship for students as well as provides a worship opportunity for students involved in choir who do not typically attend chapel services. The organists for chapel are student organists, which adds another level of student involvement.

There are also additional worship opportunities like Praise, evening prayer and The Attic Bible study that allow students to form tighter knit, faith-based communities. Being able to worship with people who enjoy worshipping in the same ways as you is a wonderful experience and is part of what makes the Concordia community so special.

Even outside of chapel and the additional dedicated worship opportunities, Christ is evident in the classroom, and not just in religion courses. Across the departments, the gospel is evident in the course material and proclaimed across a variety of subjects. For example, music professors frequently use hymns to demonstrate the concepts that they are teaching. Business professors teach how to lead in a Christ-like manner. Science professors lead their teachings back to the glory of God’s creation. Christ is proclaimed in the classroom both through spoken words and through the servant leadership of the faculty.

Worship is an important aspect of the Christian faith and an integral part of Concordia’s identity. Christ is proclaimed in chapel worship, in student-led Bible studies and worship services and every day in the classroom.
