Concordia University, Nebraska’s theatre department will be performing the musical, "The Addams Family," in Weller Hall on November 4th and 5th and November 10th – 12th

“The Addams Family” is based on the macabre characters from the 1960s comics by Charles Addams and made popular by the 1960s TV series. The musical focuses on the usually morbid teenage daughter, Wednesday Addams, as she falls in love with Lucas, a “normal” boy. When Wednesday invites Lucas and his parents for dinner to meet her parents Gomez and Morticia and the other eccentric family members, values, loyalties, and relationships are tested in crazy and hilarious ways.

It’s been a few years since Concordia’s theatre department produced a musical, and Bryan Moore, professor of communication and theatre arts, is getting back into the swing of things. “Musicals have a lot more moving parts, including having to teach the students the songs and choreography along with the staging, as well as the increased number of costumes and scenic elements. Fortunately, I have great performance and design colleagues who work with the students to bring everything together on stage and behind the scenes. They are learning a lot in a limited time, but we're excited about the progress so far.”

Claire Horacek, a freshman from Papillion, Nebraska, is a testament to this necessary fast learning process. “I have relatively no singing experience, so getting a lead was wild to me. I was flabbergasted. I haven't had as much vocal experience as other cast members, but the voice director Anne Gray has been giving me really good tips and encouragement! The dancing so far is clever and zesty and really fun to do.” Claire is confident that the hard work and collaboration of the cast will create a great show. “[The cast members] have worked so hard to create a fabulous story! Our director Bryan Moore and stage manager Chloe Wells have offered amazing insight and support as we go. And I have to shout out our set designer Bob Olson, because the set is going to blow people away."
