This past semester, six Concordia University, Nebraska students studied abroad in various parts of the world. They were able to do this through Concordia’s Global Opportunities Center, which offers study opportunities from a semester abroad to a week-long study tour.

One of the students, education major Emma Wakely, studied in Salzburg, Austria. Her classes included History of World War II, Music in the Age of Mozart, Europe and the Global Economy, and an entry German Language class. She and another student, Olivia Nafzger, studied abroad together, so they were able to spend some time together outside of classes. Wakely said that one of her favorite things to do in her free time was to sit by the Salzach river and journal or chat with friends. She chose to study abroad because she saw it as an opportunity to travel and see new places, connect with different cultures and to be challenged in a way that she is not in the United States.

Abigail Constien, a Christian Education Leadership major, also studied abroad this past semester. She went to the Westfield house in Cambridge, England. Her classes included World Religions, British Science Fiction, European Reformations, and New Testament Epistles. Her daily life included attending lectures, reading and researching, spending time with other students, exploring Cambridge and traveling to other places in Europe on the weekends. Constien said, “All in all I found these few four months to be an immensely enriching experience, and I am so glad I had the chance to go.”

Other students that studied abroad this spring include Ian Fiala in Cusco, Peru, Youssef Heggy in San Jose, Costa Rica, Aiden Jenik in Cambridge, England and Olivia Nafzger in Salzburg, Austria.
