The Concordia University, Nebraska Orchestra will present their concert program “String Essentials” on November 8 at 4 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Seward, Nebraska. The concert revolves around works that feature and highlight techniques of orchestral string playing from various cultures and musical styles.

“I hope the audience enjoys and connects with the music,” said Professor Matthew Jahnke, director of the orchestra. “Our job as artists is not only to create high-quality sonic experiences, but we also have an obligation as part of our vocation to move our listeners to love and service towards their neighbor and towards God.”

Highlights of the program include George Frideric Handel’s Concertato Grosso in A minor, Jean Sibelius’ Andante Festivo and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Symphony No. 25 in G minor.

“Our job as artists is not only to create high-quality sonic experiences, but we also have an obligation as part of our vocation to move our listeners to love and service towards their neighbor and towards God.”

Jahnke will be giving a post-concert talk to dive into the program notes of the pieces in a deeper manner. This is intended to provide education to audience members if they desire to connect with the music on an academic level.

“I am ecstatic to share this program with the Concordia and Seward communities,” said Jahnke. “Orchestral music has a deep and rich history from across the world and this program reflects the cosmopolitanism that has shaped the orchestral repertoire into what it is today.”

The concert is being performed in support of the family of Professor of Music Robert Cody.
