Kellie Nelson serves as the Director of the Uzziah Ag Scholars Program at Concordia University, Nebraska, where she supports students passionate about agriculture and leadership through a biblical lens. Nelson helps create hands-on learning experiences from field visits and internships to mentoring and connections with ag professionals. She also assists with recruitment and cultivates partnerships with agriculture organizations and supporters who believe in the mission of stewarding God’s creation.
A Concordia alumna, Nelson earned her bachelor’s degree in agricultural science with a minor in business. In her current role, she also helps lead agricultural leadership minor courses offered to Uzziah Scholars students. One of the most impactful parts of her work is coordinating student involvement in service opportunities, including a monthly mobile food pantry at St. John Lutheran Church in Seward.
Nelson grew up on a farm and ranch in southwest Kansas, where her love for agriculture was deeply rooted in the rhythms of rural life, hard work and God’s creation. She and her husband, Jack Nelson ’24, live in Seward. Nelson also volunteers as a Sunday school teacher at Hillcrest Evangelical Free Church, investing in the spiritual growth of young children in her community.
In her free time, Nelson enjoys running, kayaking in the mountains, playing sports with family and friends and landscape photography. Whether it’s a walk with loved ones and a homemade iced coffee or exploring new places, she cherishes the simple joys of life and the beauty of nature. As much as she loves to travel, Nelson believes there’s truly no place like home.
“Every day, I get to be part of something bigger than myself: a Christ-centered mission that shapes not only minds, but hearts. It’s a true blessing to walk alongside students as they grow in their faith, purpose and calling in agriculture, and to contribute to the transformative work happening at Concordia University, Nebraska. ”
