Dr. Teddie Genter is the Director of the Micah Pre-Health Scholars Program and an Assistant Professor of Pre-Health Professions. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Occupational Therapy from Saint Louis University. After several years of clinical practice with at-risk youth in juvenile detention centers and with children with disabilities from under-resourced communities, she completed a post-professional doctorate in Occupational Therapy at the University of Southern California, pursuing dual leadership pathways in Clinical Research and Advanced Clinical Practice. At USC, she also served as a graduate research assistant, focusing on resilience and the lived experiences of mothers and children facing adversity, including incarceration, disability and teen pregnancy and parenting.
Dr. Genter specializes in pediatrics and maternal health and is a Certified Perinatal Mental Health Professional (PMH-C) and International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). She has a long history of volunteer work supporting families in achieving their infant feeding goals at the local, state and national levels and continues to support families through lactation consultation and part-time work in a Nebraska NICU.
In her free time, Dr. Genter enjoys being with her family, exercising, and exploring topics related to lactation, infant development, and maternal health. She is married to Dr. John Genter, a theology professor at Concordia University, whom she first met when he was a barista at the coffee shop where she studied as an undergraduate. He still makes her coffee daily. Together, they enjoy life with their four children—Zoe, Eliana, Emmet and Benjamin—who fill their home with joy and laughter.
