Winter JazzFest concert showcases blues, jazz, swing

Both band and vocal performers participate in Concordia’s annual winter JazzFest concert, scheduled this year for Dec. 11, 2015, on campus.

The annual winter JazzFest concert, celebrating the style of blues, jazz, and swing music, is Dec. 11, 2015, at 7 p.m. in Weller Hall auditorium at Concordia.

The Vocal Jazz Choir and Jazz Band will perform during the concert. The Vocal Jazz Choir will perform multiple pieces from the 1960s including the hits “Happy Together,” “It Don’t Mean a Thing” and “I’ll Never Fall in Love Again.”

The Jazz Band will present, among others, “Backrow Politics” by Gordon Goodwin and “Walkin’ and Swingin’” by Mary Lou Williams, as well as other pieces like “Loose Lid Special” by Sy Oliver, “Tin Roof Blues” by the New Orleans Rhythm Kings and “Brass Roots” by Don Sebesky.
