University Chamber Choir returns from tour of upper western US
The 16-voice Chamber Choir from Concordia embarked on a 10-day tour of the upper western United States May 10-19. Tour stops included churches and schools in Iowa, South Dakota, Montana and Wyoming.
The choir performed at school assemblies, church worship services, and eight evening concerts.
The choir’s tour repertoire included chamber choral anthems by Hans Leo Hassler, Henry Smart, Standford Scriven and René Clausen. Vocal jazz selections included an arrangement of The Mamas and the Papas’ “California Dreamin’” as well as music by Paris Rutherford and Take 6. The choir also sang well-known sacred hymns and spirituals.
Selected from the University A Cappella Choir, the elite 16-voice Chamber Choir formed in 1998. The choir has since traveled to most regions of the United States, performing both sacred and secular music from all periods of musical history. The choir is conducted by Dr. Kurt von Kampen, professor of music at Concordia.
