Some of the best vocal and instrumental high school musicians from across the country were at Concordia on Friday, Oct. 29, for Musical Arts Day. A concert at 7 p.m. in the Health, Human Performance and Athletic Center arena will wrapped up a day full of clinics and rehearsals.
This year, 115 musicians will traveled to the university's campus in Seward for the event. The students, from as far away as California and New Hampshire, auditioned for the opportunity to work with Concordia's music department students and faculty. The closing concert featured performances by the high school honor choir and band, by selected high school soloists, and in combination with the University A Cappella Choir and University Symphonic Band.
"Musical Arts Day is a unique experience for high school musicians," explained Dr. Kurt von Kampen, A Cappella Choir director. "Not only do singers and instrumentalists receive a day full of high energy, focused rehearsing and performing, but also they have the chance to meet new friends from across the country. It should be a tremendous opportunity for musical growth and making new friends."
