Senske to deliver Maehr Lecture

Dr. Kurt Senske will give the 2010-11 Martin and Regina Maehr Lecture at Concordia on Monday, Nov. 15, at 7 p.m. in the Weller Hall auditorium. The event is free, and the public is welcome. Senske is the author of The Calling: Living a Life of Significance and serves as the chief executive officer of Lutheran Social Services of the South and the chair of the board of directors of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.

The Maehr lecture series was established in 1976 through an endowment by former faculty member Dr. Martin Maehr. Concordia Publishing House, publisher for The Calling, is also sponsoring the event.

 Senske’s lecture will explore modern notions of living a fulfilling life and present a Christian alternative that encourages the selfless act of focusing on service to others. In addition, Senske will be discussing what it means to live in various and overlapping vocational arenas.

Senske completed his undergraduate work at Concordia University Texas at Austin and Valparaiso University in Indiana. He has a bachelor of science degree in business administration, a law degree from the University of Illinois College of Law, a master’s degree in international relations from Schiller International University in Paris, France, and a doctorate in government from the University of Texas at Austin.

Senske has served as assistant to the president at Concordia University Texas and has practiced law with several firms in Chicago, Ill. He also has worked as a political consultant and senior staff member for candidates and government leaders at the local, state and national levels.
