Concordia University, Nebraska Professor of English Lisa Ashby and Associate Professor of Communication and Theatre Bryan Moore led 10 Concordia students on the university’s first New England study tour that focused on both theatre and literary sites on the East Coast.

“This trip combined the whole of literary and theatre production and performance,” said Ashby. “We explored how history, places, homes and culture impact people's writing and performance. We felt that this would be an excellent opportunity for students to integrate their humanities studies across several disciplines.”

The group spent the majority of its time in Massachusetts, touring major historical and literary sites in Boston, Lexington, Concord, Salem, Plymouth and New Bedford. The group visited the Plimoth Plantation Museum; the New Bedford Whaling Museum; and the homes of several authors including Emily Dickinson, Herman Melville and Henry David Thoreau at the famous Walden Pond.

The 13-day trip, held from May 12–25, also included touring several theatres; watching theatre productions in Boston, New York City, Chicago, Illinois, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Buffalo, New York; and visiting the Mark Twain House & Museum and Noah Webster House in Connecticut.
