Marxhausen Gallery of Art announces 2016-17 exhibit schedule

The Marxhausen Gallery of Art in Jesse Hall on Concordia’s campus features a variety of art exhibitions throughout each academic year. The 2016 schedule kicked off on Aug. 22, featuring the art of The Society of Illustrators.

The Marxhausen Gallery of Art at Concordia University, Nebraska announced its art exhibition schedule for the 2016-17 academic year. The gallery hosts a number of regional and nationally acclaimed art exhibitions, as well as faculty and student shows. 

“This year the Marxhausen Gallery of Art is pleased to offer a number of dynamic exhibitions for a wide range of audiences,” said Director of the Marxhausen Gallery of Art James Bockelman. “The first exhibition, featuring the art of The Society of Illustrators, is presented in conjunction with the Plum Creek Children’s Literacy Festival and celebrates the fine art of children’s book illustration. This extraordinary show consists of thirty-nine colorful works of art that are sure to amaze all types of people in attendance to the event.”

The gallery’s mission is to provide local and regional communities with opportunities to appreciate and understand the role of art and culture through its collection, exhibition programs and educational opportunities.

All exhibits are open to the public and free of charge. The Marxhausen Gallery is located in Jesse Hall and is open Monday–Friday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. during the fall and spring semesters while classes are in session.

Oct. 3–Nov. 4

  • “LINES: Selections from Concordia’s Permanent Collection”
  • Opening reception: Sunday, Oct. 9, from 1 to 4 p.m. with gallery talk at 2 p.m. in the Marxhausen Gallery of Art

Sept. 29

  • Heidi Bartlett: Visiting Artist
  • Public talk: Thursday, Sept. 29, 3:40 p.m. in Thom Leadership Education Center room 113

Nov. 6–Dec. 14

  • Darger HQ Presents: “Lingua Franca: Curated by Launa Bacon of Darger HQ”
  • Opening reception: Sunday, Nov. 13, 1 to 4 p.m. with public talk at 2 p.m. in Thom Leadership Education Center Auditorium

Jan. 9–Feb. 10

  • “Drawing Performance: Abstraction from Berlin and the United States”
  • Opening reception: Sunday, Jan. 22, 1 to 4 p.m. with public talk at 2 p.m. in Thom Leadership Education Center Auditorium

Feb. 12–March 17

  • “Biannual Faculty Exhibition”
