In December, Concordia’s Lighthouse club hosted a fundraising event where they raised a total of $5,460.77 in an effort to stop human trafficking.

The club participated in Dressember, which is a fundraiser where participants wear a dress or tie for the month of December, to raise awareness and funds for victims of human trafficking.  This year, the proceeds went to International Justice Mission, an organization that uses the donations to fund rescue missions and rehabilitation of trafficking victims.

Lighthouse plans to raise even more funds throughout the year, with a flower sale on Valentines Day, and an on-campus thrift store in March. The flower sale will take place from 8-3 on Janzow top on Valentines Day, with a presale link for people to reserve flowers beforehand. The club will be selling an assortment of flowers including roses, daisies, chrysanthemums, and more. All of the proceeds from the sale will go to International Justice Mission.

President of the club, Larissa Embree is optimistic about Lighthouse’s fundraising opportunities this year. Embree stated that “Lighthouse has been doing excellent work as long as it has been on campus, but this past school year, we have been able to increase both student and community engagement as well as the funds we’ve raised, even just through our first event. I am so proud of all the work everyone has put in this year and am honored to be the president of such an impactful organization.”
