The Concordia University, Nebraska forensics team earned seven top-six finishes during the past two weekends at in-state forensics tournaments: the Hastings Bronco Bash tournament and the Battle for the Capital, hosted by the University of Nebraska Omaha as a swing tournament with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

“The competition is truly tough here in Nebraska as we compete against many of the same students from several nationally ranked schools at every tournament,” said Joy Johnson, Concordia’s director of forensics. “However, this challenge has been quite the rewarding learning experience for Concordia's forensics team, made up entirely of novice competitors, as we are already eagerly looking to polish pieces and speeches for next year.”

At the Hastings tournament Feb. 21-22, Melonie Kotschwar and Emily Kollbaum placed fourth in their Duo piece both days. Kollbaum also placed fifth in her Dramatic Interpretation piece on the second day, and Marol Feickert won sixth in her Program of Oral Interpretation on the first day of the tournament.

The students also had success on the first day of the UNO/UNL meet, which was held Feb. 28-March 1. Feickert placed fifth in her Program of Oral Interpretation, and Kollbaum placed fifth in Dramatic Interpretation. Zane Francescato earned sixth place in his Program of Oral Interpretation.

Marol Feickert, sophomore, Lawrenceville, N.J.
Zane Francescato, freshman, Alamosa, Colo.
Emily Kollbaum, sophomore, Concordia, Mo.
Melonie Kotschwar, junior, Seward, Neb.

Four Concordia forensics team members will also participate at the 18th annual National Christian College Forensics Invitational March 20-22 at Colorado Christian University in Lakewood, Colorado.
