Dr. Samuel P. Wheeler will speak at Concordia University, Nebraska, at 1 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 8, in the Thom Leadership Education Center auditorium as part of Concordia’s “Looking Beyond” lecture series. The topic of Wheeler’s presentation will be Abraham Lincoln and religion.

“Lincoln is probably the most fascinating leader in American history, and religion had a huge impact on his life,” said Tobin Beck, assistant professor of global studies. “Wheeler is a terrific Lincoln historian and scholar who will really bring alive not only how Lincoln looked at religion but how we and history have remembered him.”

Wheeler received his doctorate in historical studies from Southern Illinois University in 2008 and is currently revising his dissertation, “Every Spot a Grave: The Poetry of Abraham Lincoln” into a book manuscript. Wheeler has worked in several public history institutions, such as the Old State Capitol and the Lincoln-Herndon Law Offices. He has also has edited two projects, “The Lincoln Legal Papers” and “Papers of Abraham Lincoln.”

The public is invited to this free presentation.
