Concordia senior Hannah Ferry has been selected as the Nebraska Language Arts Student Teacher of the Year by the Nebraska English Language Arts Council. She was nominated by her supervising teacher, Tom Pallas, at Seward High School.

Ferry, from Milwaukee, Wis., hopes to be called to a teaching position in the Milwaukee area after her graduation. She credits Pallas allowing her to be creative in the classroom with her success.

"Although there were times when my inexperience worked against me, it was awesome to have the opportunity to try new things and to get to know the great students at Seward High," said Ferry.  "I feel honored that Mr. Pallas decided to nominate me for this award."

Pallas not only was impressed with Ferry's abilities but also with her heart for teaching. "What stood out was she wanted each student to be successful, and she showed that she really cared about each student by communicating with them each day."
