Electric car charging station unveiled at Concordia

Concordia University hosted the dedication of a new ChargePoint electric vehicle charging station on its campus northeast of the Walz Athletic Fieldhouse on East Hillcrest Drive, on Monday, April 22, at approximately 11:15 a.m.
Pat Pope, Nebraska Public Power District CEO and president, and other dignitaries attended the dedication and addressed the importance of the electrification of transportation to the Nebraska economy.
“While there are nearly 6,000 charging stations in the U.S., Nebraska is home to only eight public stations. With the growing interest in electric cars in the U.S., we’re pleased to join the growing network of charging stations in our state,” said Rev. Dr. Brian Friedrich, president of Concordia University, Nebraska.
“Not only does having a charging station on campus complement Concordia’s own environmental stewardship strategy but, as a university, we want to be leaders in embracing technology, be faithful stewards of God’s creation and provide opportunities that benefit the greater community,” he added.
Nebraska Public Power District provided a Chevy Volt, Woodhouse Auto Family, a Nissan Leaf and the Don Cox Family made a Tesla Roadster and Tesla Model S available for the Learn and Drives during the dedications.
The dedication at Concordia University is the second of three that occurred that day. The first dedication took place at Seward Memorial Library at 11 a.m., followed by the dedication at Concordia. The final unveiling took place at Seward High School, 532 Northern Heights Drive, southeast corner of the gymnasium.
