By 2020, there will be 61.5 million Americans older than age 65 and 6.5 million of those will be over 85, according to the United States Census Bureau. To inform people about how they can serve this expanding aging population, Concordia University, Nebraska will sponsor a Careers in Aging forum on Tuesday, April 12, from 5- 8 p.m. at Concordia’s campus in Lincoln.

The forum will include sessions about older populations and their needs. It also will provide important information about the wide range of professions in the field of aging and aging research and the academic programs offered by Concordia to get one started on a career path in the aging field.

“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to share information about aging service and career opportunities in the Lincoln area,” said Dr. Renea Gernant, director of gerontology and aging studies at Concordia.  “It’s our hope that many more people will discover the rewards and the opportunities that are available to those who have a passion for working with and for older adults!”

Concordia is joining with dozens of institutions across the country holding events during Careers in Aging Week, an annual joint venture between The Gerontological Society of America and the Association for Gerontology in Higher Education.
