Concordia orientation includes introduction to Seward community

Concordia's “Weekend of Welcome” for new students, part of the orientation program at the university, took place Aug. 19-21. The weekend was designed to help students get to know each other, the Concordia community and Seward.
A block party and cook-out on the courthouse lawn hosted by the Chamber of Commerce, area businesses and churches was a highlight of Saturday’s activities. This year new students were introduced to Seward businesses through a raffle. Students collected raffle tickets for donated prizes as they visited displays of area businesses.
Orientation events on campus for new students included meals, games and activities with groups like their classmates in freshman seminar and fellow residents in their dorms. Several informational sessions and a celebratory farewell dinner were organized for parents who made the trip to drop off their sons and daughters.
The weekend ended with a worship service at 7 p.m. on Sunday at St. John Lutheran Church to officially open the academic year and welcome new faculty, staff and students.
