Concordia Nebraska partners with Concordia Seminary, St. Louis to present Studia Vitae continuing education course

Concordia Seminary, St. Louis President Dr. Thomas J. Egger and Concordia Nebraska President Dr. Bernard Bull will co-present “Biblical Wisdom, Decision-Making, Phronesis, and Leadership” as part of Concordia University, Nebraska’s non-credit continuing education and lifelong learning program called Studia Vitae. Studia Vitae offers Christ-centered continuing education opportunities in a variety of focused areas through an online scheduled and self-paced learning platform.
“Biblical Wisdom, Decision-Making, Phronesis, and Leadership” will be presented on Tuesdays from March 9 to April 17 at 7 p.m. Central Time.
Bull and Egger’s Studia Vitae course is designed for Lutheran church and school leaders, current and aspiring Christian nonprofit leaders and lay professionals in leadership but is open to anyone. The course shows participants how to apply biblical wisdom and classical discernment to faithful decision-making.
Registration is now open for this course and additional offerings in Concordia University, Nebraska’s Studia Vitae program. Each CEU course is $150 and is delivered in six one-hour sessions. Exclusive pricing is available for program participants who are members of preferred partner organizations. The short, focused sessions are available as scheduled webinars that will also be recorded for future viewing. Enrollment is flexible and open to anyone with no prerequisites required, and no commitment is needed to take additional classes.
Egger is president of Concordia Seminary, St. Louis. He also serves a professor of exegetical theology. Egger, a faculty member since 2005, was inaugurated as the 11th president of Concordia Seminary in 2021. He previously served as the Gustav and Sophie Butterbach Professor of Exegetical Theology, associate professor of exegetical theology, the chairman of the department of exegetical theology and the academic adviser for first-year students. Egger served as pastor at Zion Lutheran Church in Storm Lake, Iowa, from 2000 to 2005. He previously served as a guest instructor at Concordia Lutheran Seminary in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, in 1999.
Egger earned a master of divinity at Concordia Seminary and received a bachelor of arts in English and German from Central College in Pella, Iowa. He completed a doctor of philosophy degree at Concordia Seminary in 2019. His dissertation focused on the phrase “visiting iniquity of fathers upon sons” from the book of Exodus. He has written pieces for a number of publications, including “Concordia Journal,” “Modern Reformation,” “Journal of the Evangelical Theological Society,” “Concordia Pulpit Resources,” “The Lutheran Witness” and for the LCMS Commission on Theology and Church Relations (CTCR).
Egger serves on the LCMS Pastoral Formation Committee, the LCMS Pastoral Colloquy Committee, the LCMS CTCR and the board of the International Lutheran Society of Wittenberg. He is a member of the Lutheran Historical Conference, the Lutheran Society for Missiology, the Evangelical Theological Society and the Society of Biblical Literature. He previously served on the Board of Regents for Concordia University Chicago, and on the Awards Committee and Walther Round Table Committee of Concordia Historical Institute. He was part of the seven-member LCMS Catechism Revision Committee that prepared the 2017 revision of the Synod’s explanation of Luther’s Small Catechism. For 10 years, he served on the Board of Directors of Providence Classical Christian Academy, a K–12 school in St. Louis, Missouri.
Bull serves as president, professor of interdisciplinary studies and director of academic ventures at Concordia University, Nebraska. In January, Bull will also serve as an instructor for Concordia University, Nebraska’s new non-credit continuing education and lifelong learning program called Studia Vitae, teaching a course titled “Biblical Foundations of Classical Christian Leadership.” Studia Vitae offers Christ-centered continuing education opportunities in a variety of focused areas through an online scheduled and self-paced learning platform.
Bull is author, co-author and/or editor of a number of books including The Pedagogy of Faith, Digitized: Spiritual Implications of Technology, Imagine the Possibilities: Conversations on the Future of Christian Education, Prep Talks: Tales of Challenges & Opportunities in Christian Education, and his most recent book, Faithful and Flourishing: A Guide to Excellence in Christian Schools.
