On August 12, twelve members of Concordia University, Nebraska’s faculty and staff hosted the Minnesota Lutheran Teacher’s Professional Development Day. The event was held at Mayer Lutheran High School in Mayer, Minnesota. This is the third year of this event. Previously, Concordia University, St. Paul and Concordia University Wisconsin hosted the event.

The administration at Mayer Lutheran reached out to Concordia Director of Dual Credit Dr. Beth Pester to ask if Concordia Nebraska would like to host the event. Dr. Pester then reached out to different faculty and staff across campus and set up a group of 12 faculty members, including Dr. Pester, Dr. Drew Gerdes, Dr. Amanda Geidel, Dr. Annette Anshutz, Kathy L’Heureux, Deb Jurchen, Dr. Keith Kerschen, Dr. Shanna Opfer, Rev. Dr. Pete Jurchen, Dr. Amy Stradtmann and Dr. Lorinda Sankey. President Dr. Bernard Bull also attended as a Keynote Speaker.

“The opportunity to partner with Lutheran schools who share our mission of spreading the gospel of Jesus is always fabulous. It was an honor for Concordia Nebraska faculty and staff to be asked and to deliver this professional development day to Minnesota Lutheran school teachers.”

This group of individuals created a diverse set of presentations that benefited Pre-K to 12 teachers. The presentations covered topics like improving classroom communication and presentation skills, using data to improve student behavior, how to create safe spaces in the classroom, the implications of technology on faith formation and creating a culture of connection.

A private donor covered all the costs for travel, food and lodging for the Concordia faculty that participated.

Dr. Pester says, “The opportunity to partner with Lutheran schools who share our mission of spreading the gospel of Jesus is always fabulous. It was an honor for Concordia Nebraska faculty and staff to be asked and to deliver this professional development day to Minnesota Lutheran school teachers.”
