Concordia Nebraska appoints new Student Senate leaders

Concordia University, Nebraska recently announced the new Student Senate leadership, which will take over governance of the club starting in the 2026-2027 academic year.
Officers for the upcoming school year include junior Aidan McKinnon of Grand Island, Nebraska, as president, junior Naa Kordai Addy of Jamestown, Accra-Ghana, as vice president, senior Jenna Schafer of Columbus, Nebraska, as treasurer and senior Mi-Ree Zwick of Minden, Nebraska, as secretary.
“I plan to use my position to help improve students’ experiences by supporting organizations and events that make campus life more engaging, inclusive and enjoyable for everyone.”
McKinnon aims to make the Student Senate more accessible to the student body.
“I chose to run to help make Student Senate be more accessible and to make sure everyone’s voice is heard,” he said.
Addy decided to run for vice president in order to advocate for student awareness of the Student Senate. She plans to be a voice for the student body while looking to find areas that could be changed or improved.
“My aim is to be a voice for the students, while keeping my eyes open for what might need changing or improving. It is my prayer to be able to bless our community with this blessing I have received to be a Student Senate officer. By God’s grace, I am very ready to serve Concordia,” she said.
Schafer is a triple major in criminal justice, psychology and marketing. She said she ran for Student Senate because she wants to make a positive impact on student organizations and the general campus.
“I plan to use my position to help improve students’ experiences by supporting organizations and events that make campus life more engaging, inclusive and enjoyable for everyone,” she said. “I also want to help make Student Senate more transparent and approachable, so students feel comfortable sharing their ideas, concerns and needs.”
Schafer also plans on using her leadership experience, organization skills and passion for helping others to responsibly manage finances and help student organizations receive the support and funding that they need to create meaningful opportunities for students.
Student Senate is Concordia’s student government. The Senate is student-led and meets weekly. The senate consists of the leadership team as well as smaller committees devoted to different areas of betterment across campus. Some of these include recycling, community service and public relations. These committees meet bi-weekly. Each main Student Senate meeting is open to the public.
Student Senate is the student government on campus. Attending Student Senate meetings is a great way to stay up to date on things happening at Concordia University, Nebraska, to help participate in improving the campus and to have your voice heard by expressing questions, ideas or concerns. Each club is asked to have a Student Senate Representative, but everyone is welcome at our meetings. Student Senate meets at 6:15 p.m. in Thom 102 every Tuesday night.
