Concordia University, Nebraska inducted junior Clarisa White into the Mu Tau chapter of Gamma Theta Upsilon, an international geographic honor society, May 1, 2015.

“Our chapter, Mu Tau, of Gamma Theta Upsilon is only three years old, and we have already had 12 initiates,” said Joel Helmer, professor of geography and chair of Concordia’s social sciences department. “This is a great achievement for these students and speaks to the academic quality of the young men and women who attend Concordia. Even more important is the fact that our initiates are landing jobs utilizing the geography skills developed while earning their degree.”

Members of GTU must have completed a minimum of three geography courses, maintained a GPA of at least 3.3 overall and completed at least three semesters of collegiate course work to be eligible for induction.

Gamma Theta Upsilon became a national organization in 1931. It aims to support geography knowledge and awareness by offering professional academic and laboratory opportunities, encouraging high-quality research and promoting geography as a cultural and practical discipline for students.
