Dozens of Concordia students, alumni, faculty and staff were on hand at the 2010 National LCMS Youth Gathering in New Orleans, La.  They joined 25,000 other LCMS youths, adults and volunteers Saturday, July 18, for five days of presentations, workshops and performances.

This LCMS youth event is held every three years and was actually slated to be in New Orleans in 2004, but had to be moved due to the damage from Hurricane Katrina. Among the venues that NYG used was the refurbished Louisiana Superdome, which at one time was a refuge for those displaced by Katrina.

Roughly 30 Concordia students took a week vacation from their summer plans to volunteer at NYG, working behind the scenes and also leading Bible studies and assisting with servant events.

Dr. Kurt von Kampen, Professor of Music, directed the NYG choir, which featured a mixture of Concordia students and over 80 LCMS youths.

Prof. Thad Warren, associate professor of education, spoke at two sessions for NYG. One presentation was intended to help adults talk to their children about sex and the other was aimed at helping youth understand the theology related to dating and finding a spouse.
