Concordia celebrates 2011 Black History Month

Concordia will host Black History Month activities Friday, Feb. 18. The events are free, and the public is invited to attend.

An African American Read-In is scheduled from 10:10 a.m. – 2 p.m. in the Janzow Campus Center. Volunteers and students will take turns reading aloud from literary works by African-American writers. Over a million readers are expected to participate nation-wide during the month of February in the Twenty-Second National African American Read-In sponsored by The National Council of Teachers of English.  Concordia’s English, Communications and Theatre department together with student leaders in R.A.C.E., Sigma Tau Delta and Pi Kappa Delta will host the campus event.

In the evening Concordia welcomes inspirational speaker, Aaron Davis, at 7 p.m. in Weller auditorium. Concordia’s intercultural awareness student organization, R.A.C.E., will host.

Davis, a member of the 1994 national championship Nebraska football team, is the president of Aaron Davis Presentations, Inc., and the chief operations officer of The Thomas Group. His company received the Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Minority Owned Business award, the Toastmasters International Communication and Leadership Award and the Rotary International Paul Harris Fellow Award. Davis is the author of 10 Minute TRUTHS.
