This year's read-in was held Feb. 3. The community was invited to read aloud from literary works by African-American authors.

Concordia hosted two events in conjunction with Black History Month in February, including a Read-In and a staging of the one-act play The Meeting.

The English, Communication and Theatre department and Concordia’s Restoring Awareness Culturally and Ethnically (R.A.C.E.) organization hosted an open mic presentation of literary works by African Americans on Feb. 3. The department has participated in the National African American Read-In sponsored by The National Council of Teachers of English since 2004. With the Read-In now in its twenty-third year, the Council invited students and community volunteers to read out loud from literary works by African-American authors.

In addition to the Read-In, two staged readings of the one-act play The Meeting by Jeff Stetson took place Feb. 1 and Feb. 8. Bryan Moore, assistant professor of theatre and communications, participated in the readings along with seniors Patrick Tyrance III, Lincoln, Neb., and Charles Washington, Houston, Texas. The play depicts a hypothetical conversation between Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X shortly before X’s assassination in 1965.
