Carla Ketner to be named outstanding woman in business by Concordia University

Carla Ketner will be honored as the 2017 Outstanding Woman in Business at a luncheon at 11:45 a.m. on March 14, 2017.

Carla Ketner of Seward, Nebraska, will be honored as the 2017 Outstanding Woman in Business on March 14, 2017, by Concordia University, Nebraska at the 14th annual Women in Business luncheon.

The luncheon, hosted by Concordia and its Phi Beta Lambda student business organization, celebrates and recognizes the achievements and servant leadership of businesswomen in Seward County.

The luncheon will take place at 11:45 a.m. on Tuesday, March 14, 2017, in the Janzow Campus Center Cattle Conference room on Concordia’s campus. Registration is due by March 1, 2017 and there is a suggested donation of $10 per person. Proceeds will go towards scholarships to benefit outstanding female business students of Concordia University, Nebraska.

Carla Ketner has owned and operated Chapters Books and Gifts in Seward since August of 2004. Carla began Chapters with a love of books, a fundamental belief in the importance of literacy and a desire to bring books and people together. Chapters works with the Seward Jr. Women’s Club to provide books for babies born at Seward Memorial Hospital and for the past eight summers, the store has hosted an annual summer day camp program for children and adults.

Although Ketner was born in Missouri, she will always claim Nebraska as her home. After graduating with a degree in Elementary Education from Nebraska Wesleyan University, she went on to earn a Master of Science degree from University of Nebraska, Omaha and a Ph.D. from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. Before becoming a business owner, Carla taught in the Lincoln and Millard Public School Systems and has taught courses at Nebraska Wesleyan University and the University of Nebraska, Lincoln.

Carla lives in Seward with her husband, J.B. Ketner and her two sons, Joel and Nathan.

The Outstanding Woman in Business award is presented each year by Phi Beta Lambda and Concordia.
