Art Scholarships

Apply for an Art Scholarship as a prospective student

1. Apply to Concordia. 
2. Submit your FAFSA. 
3. Submit your portfolio to be considered for an art scholarship at Concordia University.

Submitting Samples of Your Work

Personal visits to showcase samples of your work are encouraged as it provides an opportunity for art faculty to meet and get to know you while viewing your art. If a personal visit isn't possible, you can submit 12-15 images of artwork in any media, including sketchbooks, using this form. After sending your art sample documents, the art faculty will review and connect with you to continue the scholarship application process.

Scholarships available to current full-time art majors

The Concordia Department of Art Scholarship Awards

The Concordia Department of Art provides undergraduate scholarships and grants to all full-time art majors who are currently enrolled at Concordia University, Nebraska and who will return for classes the following year. Awards are decided by faculty review. In order for students to be considered for any of the awards listed below, they must formally submit an application that addresses the award’s eligibility requirements and the criteria specific to that endowment.

Leo Sieck Endowment

The Leo Sieck Endowment was established to acknowledge an art student who demonstrates great potential as a scholar in art history, theory and research. In order to be considered for this award, the student must be a major in art and rank in the upper 10% of their class.

Application Process
Submit a digital portfolio that contains the following requirements:

1. Three examples of written work; one must be a formal research paper that includes proper notation.
    
2. Current GPA for all course work, as well as a GPA for coursework within the art major.
    
3. A statement of no more than 500 words explaining your interest in aesthetics, art history and theory. Essentially, a short essay that highlights the significance of the non-art making component to art.
    
4. A resume that includes a list of extra-curricular activities that reinforce your interest in art.

Class of 1933 Endowment

Preference will be given to students in Lutheran teaching via education and service to the church. In order to be considered for this award, the student must be an art education major and pursuing an LCMS degree certificate.

Application Process
Submit a digital portfolio that contains the following requirements:

1. 10-15 images of your art-work to demonstrate your competence within the field of art-making and shed light on your particular area of interest.
    
2. Current GPA for all course work, as well as a GPA for art classes.
    
3. A statement of no more than 500 words explaining your attitude about the place of art within the Lutheran church and school. This may take the form of a teaching philosophy for art education.
    
4. A resume that includes a list of extra-curricular activities that reinforce your interest in art and art education, such as practicum experiences, internships, etc.

Wayne and Wanda Lillich Endowment – Lillich Graphic Design Award

This award recognizes a student or students in the area of graphic design that exemplifies professionalism, high attention to the craft of the discipline, and overall quality of their design work.

Application Process
Submit a digital portfolio that contains the following requirements:

1. 10-15 images, 7-10 of which must be in the field of graphic design.
    
2. Current GPA for all course work, as well as a GPA for art classes.
    
3. A statement of intent that explains why you should be considered for the award. This essay should be no more than 500 words and contain your philosophy towards graphic design.
    
4. A resume that includes a list of extra-curricular activities that reinforce your interest in graphic design noting any outstanding projects, awards from exhibitions, or related internships.

Marxhausen Endowment

Students do not apply for the Marxhausen Endowment Scholarships

Established by Reinhold Marxhausen and family, these scholarship awards recognize great artwork across a broad group of students and media. This award scholarship is open to all art majors and minors currently enrolled at Concordia University, Nebraska and who will be returning for classes the following year. Selected by the faculty of the Department of Art during the department’s Annual Student Art Exhibition, these Honorable Mentions are presented to students whose work in the exhibition merits outstanding attention for its creativity, high degree of quality and/or clarity of vision. These awards are granted primarily upon the student’s representation in the Annual Student Art Exhibition.
