Students part of Lincoln concert series

Six Concordia students shared their talents on the organ as part of St. Paul United Methodist Church’s “First Friday” noon-time concert series. 

Seniors Aaron Kortze, Rockford, Ill., Connie Kettner, Jacob, Ill., Sara Schultz, Wamega, Kan., Kathleen Bergt, Fairmont, Minn., and freshmen James Clausen, Hull, Iowa, and Peter Klinge, State Center, Iowa, performed on Friday, Feb. 3.

This is the first year students have been invited to play in the concert series. Dr. Jeffrey Blersch, professor of music, performed for the series previously. John Friesen, St. Paul’s organist, contacted Blersch about having Concordia students perform.

“I’m titling the concert “A Fresh Perspective” because I think students have a new perspective on the organ and in playing,” said Friesen. “It’s so enriching to see a new crop of people interested in the organ, which a lot of people, in my experiences, tend to shy away from using.” 

“The noon-time concerts reach out to those in the downtown business community,” said Blersch.
