Concordia's Marxhausen Gallery will feature an extensive public showing of original illustration art from the Little Golden Books picture book collection Aug. 25–Sep. 28 in conjunction with the Plum Creek Children’s Literacy Festival, which will be held Sept. 25–27, 2014, at Concordia.
“Plum Creek is thrilled to be able to showcase these original works during the festival,” Plum Creek Coordinator Vikki Gremel said. “What an opportunity for thousands of children to see authentic artwork from the Little Golden Books!”
Sixty-two masterpieces of original illustration art by these and other artists—chosen from the vast Random House archive—will be featured in the exhibition, including pieces from such picture-book classics as “The Poky Little Puppy,” “Tootle,” “Home for a Bunny,” “The Color Kittens,” “I Can Fly” and more.
Featured illustrators include Garth Williams, Feodor Rojankovsky, Tibor Gergely, Gustaf Tenggren, Martin Provensen, J. P. Miller, Mary Blair, Leonard Weisgard, Eloise Wilkin, Elizabeth Orton Jones, Richard Scarry and Hilary Knight.
The exhibit is open to the public and free of charge. Classes of students are welcome to arrange a visit to the gallery. The Marxhausen Gallery is located in Jesse Hall and is open Monday–Friday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.
