Concordia hosts Lutheran secondary schools summit

Concordia hosted Lutheran high school administrators from across Nebraska Oct. 28-30 at the annual Association of Lutheran Secondary Schools Heartland Summit.

“It is important for Concordia to be involved with Lutheran educators and to support their ministry in meaningful ways,” said Bernard Tonjes, association professor of education, who helped coordinate the summit. “This conference also offered time for Concordia education faculty to meet and interact with educators so that our programs remain in touch with life in the “real world.”

Presentations included:

Embracing the Future of Education in a Digital Age – This keynote presentation explored how educational leaders decide what is best for schools and students in the technological age, presented by Dr. Bernard Bull of Concordia University, Wisconsin.

The Digital Distribution of Content: What’s Coming that You Need to Know? – Presented by Joel Davies, higher education curriculum development executive at Apple Inc., this session highlighted resources other than textbooks that can be used in the classroom including iPads and e-text.

One-to-One iPad Implementation – Lutheran high school principals Jon Bernhardt, Tim Brackman and Brian Ryherd shared their schools’ experiences in making the switch to iPad use. Participants offered their own experiences and were encouraged to ask questions about the practical implementation of iPads in Lutheran schools.

Foreign Exchange Students: For YOUR school? – Several schools have successful experiences in integrating foreign exchange students into their schools. This presentation discussed how to market your school to foreign exchange students and their families.
