MSAA 500
Leadership And Management in Athletics 3 credits
This course is designed to provide the student with insight into various leadership styles and techniques that can be utilized within an Athletic Department to assure the success of the department in producing competitive programs that foster growth of its student-athletes in all areas. Particular focus will be placed on the development of a mission statement, vision statement and organizational goals for the department that align with the academic institution and assisting coaches in the same process and assuring its implementation.
MSAA 520
Ethical and Legal Aspects of Athletics Administration 3 credits
This course equips students to analyze their own ethical philosophies and those of others in diverse Interscholastic and College Athletics environments and to incorporate those philosophies in solving ethical issues in their Athletic Departments. Included in the course is a study of different ethical models being applied in the modern athletics environment and the challenges faced by Christians in this morally diverse environment. This course also introduces students to important legal challenges they will face in leadership roles in Athletic Departments and how they should analyze relevant variables in those areas to make wise decisions. Areas such as Hazing, Negligence, Title IX, Sexual Harassment, Americans with Disabilities Act, and other employment laws will be discussed.

Sports Analytics and Technology in Coaching 3 credits
This course examines the integration of sports analytics and emerging technologies in the field of athletic coaching, with a focus on how data-driven insights can enhance performance, 70 strategy, and athlete development. Participants will explore advanced analytical tools, performance-tracking systems, and digital platforms used to assess and improve individual and team outcomes. Grounded in a Christian worldview, the course emphasizes ethical considerations in the use of technology and the importance of fostering a servant-leader approach in coaching. Students will learn to critically assess and apply technological innovations to support athletes holistically; while promoting teamwork, accountability, and fair play.

Serving & Leading in Athletic Coaching 3 credits
This course explores the vocation of athletic coaching through the lens of servant leadership, emphasizing the responsibility to serve athletes and foster their development holistically (spiritually, mentally, socially, and physically). Grounded in Lutheran values, the course encourages coaches to reflect on their personal beliefs and values, guiding them to lead authentically and purposefully. Participants will analyze the intersection of professional growth, organizational leadership, and service, applying these principles within athletic programs. Through this exploration, coaches will be equipped to model and enact servant leadership that enhances both individual athletes and the collective team environment.
