Spring tour takes Concordia choir to Tennessee
Concordia's premier vocal ensemble, the University A Cappella Choir, will began its annual spring tour on Friday, March 12. The 70-member choir has scheduled performances at schools and churches in Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana, Tennessee and Illinois before returning home to Seward for its final tour performance on March 28. Prize-winning organist to give concert at Concordia

Concordia organ students perform at AGO recital
Four Concordia organ students performed in the annual student recital of the Lincoln Chapter of the American Guild of Organists on Monday, Feb. 1. Seniors Aaron Kortze, Rockford, Ill., and Ann Henny, Clinton, Mo., junior Sara Schultz, Wamego, Kan., and sophomore Connie Kettner, Jacob, Ill., played the 65-rank Reuter organ at Lincoln’s First Presbyterian Church. Joining them on the program were students from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and from Nebraska Wesleyan University. Concordia will host the annual event in alternate years.

Bring on the bells
The sound of bells from the Concordia Handbell Choirs filled the air of the recital hall in the Music Building on Sunday, Dec. 13. Selections included traditional carols such as "Away in a Manger" and "Ding Dong Merrily on High" and contemporary arrangements of "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen," "Catalonian Carol" and "Silent Night." "On Jordan's Bank the Baptist's Cry," an Advent hymn adaptation by Concordia Assistant Professor of Music Pete Prochnow, was heard on the Dec. 6 broadcasts of "The Lutheran Hour." The radio shows reach over a million listeners each Sunday. [MORE]

Vocal Jazz Choir and Symphonic Band perform at NMEA conference
The Concordia Vocal Jazz Choir and the University Symphonic Band of Concordia both made repeat appearances at the annual Nebraska Music Educators Conference in Lincoln. The performances were part of a three-day schedule of presentations, clinics and activities meant to instruct and motivate Nebraska teachers and students of music. [MORE]
