M GOLF: Linksters finish fourth at Blue River Classic

The Concordia University, Nebraska men's golf team was the only team to improve their second round score as they finished fourth at the Blue River Classic. This was the first year of the Blue River Classic which was hosted jointly by Concordia and Doane College.

The two-day meet was played at College Heights Country Club in Crete, Neb., on Friday and wrapped up at the Seward Country Club on Saturday.

Southeast Community College took the team title with a two-day total of 617. Doane was runner-up (621). Dakota Wesleyan edged the Bulldogs for third place, shooting a 626, while the Bulldogs finished with a 630 (317-313).

The Concordia "B" squad was sixth with a score of 687 (340-347).

Mike Kulzer had the best opening round score (69) and was the highest individual finisher for Concordia, taking fourth place (150).

Gil Russel carded a 76 Saturday on the home course for the Bulldogs, finishing with a score of 158, good for 11th place.

Other Bulldogs garnering individual honors included John Zilm who tied for 12th (159) and Logan Betka in a tie for 14th (160). Steffan Shelemey was also in the top 20, tied for 19th, with a 162.

Next up for the Bulldogs is the GPAC Championships on Monday and Tuesday April 23-24. The GPAC meet is being held in Sioux Falls, S.D.
