BSB: Concordia falls to Northwestern Oklahoma State, 15-9
Northwestern Oklahoma State University earned a 15-9 baseball win over Concordia University on Sunday afternoon. The Rangers pounded 14 hits in the game and took full advantage of five errors by the Concordia defense to secure the win. NWOSU improved to 13-8 on the season with the win, while Concordia dropped its seventh straight game to fall to 1-12 on the year.

FB: Coaching changes announced for Bulldog football program
Concordia University head football coach Vance Winter has announced two changes on the Bulldog coaching staff. Patrick Daberkow has been named the new defensive coordinator. Ted Hall will also take over as Concordia’s lone offensive coordinator.

BSB: Concordia travels to Oklahoma and Texas over spring break
The Concordia University baseball team will travel to Oklahoma and Texas to compete in seven games over spring break. The Bulldogs open the trip at Northwest Oklahoma State University on March 14. Concordia then makes its way to Texas for games against Howard Payne University, Texas Lutheran University, Valley City State and UT-Brownsville from March 17-19. The Bulldogs conclude the trip with another game at Northwest Oklahoma State University on March 21.

WBB: Bulldogs bow out of NAIA National Tournament
The Concordia University women’s basketball team suffered a 56-42 loss to Indiana Wesleyan on Wednesday evening in the first round of the NAIA Division II National Tournament. The Wildcats took control of the game in the first half, and the Bulldogs were unable to rally. Indiana Wesleyan advanced to the next round of the tournament and improved to 27-6 with the win. Concordia ended its season with a record of 21-11.

The Concordia University women’s basketball team is heading back to the National Tournament for the third straight year. The Bulldogs earned an at-large bid and open play against Indiana Wesleyan on March 10 in a 5:15 p.m. contest. The National Tournament will run from March 10 – 16 at the Tyson Events Center/Gateway Arena in Sioux City.

TF: Concordia set to compete at NAIA Indoor Track & Field Championships
The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Indoor Track and Field National Championships will take place from March 4-6 in Johnson City, Tenn. The event will take place at the ETSU Memorial Center “Mini-Dome,” with the men’s heptathlon and women’s pentathlon kicking off the event on Thursday afternoon. Johnson City has hosted the event since 2001.

The 2010 Great Plains Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships were held Saturday at the Bob Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln on the campus of The University of Nebraska. The Concordia University women scored 151 points to win the team title, while the Bulldogs finished second on the men’s side with 117.5 points.

Between March 1 and April 15 the field house portion of Concordia University, Nebraska’s new Health, Human Performance and Athletic Center will be open to the public during designated hours for running and walking on the track. Community members, students, faculty and staff are invited to come in from the cold and get some exercise.

FB: Bulldog football program signs 35 to the 2010 recruiting class
Concordia University, Nebraska head football coach Vance Winter has released the names of 32 high school seniors and 3 mid-year enrollees for the 2010 recruiting class. 20 of the commits hail from the state of Nebraska with five from Texas and four from Colorado. Many of the signees were multi-sport stars in the high school. Three of the signees won individual state titles in wrestling or track and field.

TF: Race walkers compete at Missouri Valley College Mini Meet
Concordia’s Emily Hanson and Rachel Kettner participated in the 3,000 meter race walk at the Missouri Valley College Mini Meet this past weekend. Hanson finished in second place and easily set an NAIA qualifying mark with a time of 15:47.13, while Ketter placed fourth with a time of 18:26.62.

WRES: Concordia concludes busy week with strong showing at Worthington Open
The Concordia University Bulldog wrestlers finished a grueling three-day competition on Saturday. Last week, Concordia won a pair of dual meets over York College and Minnesota West Community College. On Saturday, the Bulldogs turned in a strong showing at the Worthington Open wrestling tournament. The Worthington Open featured 18 schools from Minnesota, South Dakota, Iowa and Nebraska.

ATH: Schmidt to step down as AD, remain as coach
Grant Schmidt, Concordia University's athletic director and head men's basketball coach, announced today that he will step aside from his athletic director responsibilities effective Dec. 31, 2009, but will remain at Concordia. Schmidt will continue as the head coach of the men's basketball team, a program he has led to an NAIA national runner-up finish in 2005 and more than 400 victories since he began head coaching duties in 1989.

MBB: Schmidt's 400th win highlights impressive weekend for Bulldogs
It was a big weekend for Grant Schmidt and the Concordia University men’s basketball team. The Bulldogs defeated Concordia Seminary by the score of 86-55 last Thursday evening for the 400th victory in the career of head coach Grant Schmidt. On Saturday, Concordia earned a 75-71 upset win over Robert Morris, the No. 1 ranked team in NAIA Division I.

CC: Concordia wins GPAC cross country title
Concordia University, Nebraska's Zach Meineke was the individual medalist Saturday at the 2009 Great Plains Athletic Conference Men's Cross Country Championships in Fremont, Neb. Teammate David Goeglein finished six seconds later, taking second. Three more Bulldogs were among the top ten runners, leaving no doubt that Concordia was heading toward a decisive conference title victory. Nebraska Wesleyan University was the conference runner-up and Doane College took third.

Sixteen Concordia wrestlers spent a brisk weekend away from the mat Oct. 9-11 and fulfilled commitments to train for the Army ROTC in the Hastings area. Concordia University, Nebraska saved two surprises for the dedication of its newest building, the Health, Human Performance and Athletic Center, on Saturday: one surprise was artistic, the other mathematical. Concordia unveiled a massive bulldog sculpture and also announced that the school was the all-time leader in Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes. The Concordia women’s golf team finished ninth at the second GPAC Qualifier held in Lincoln on Monday. The Bulldogs had a team score of 365 and had one player finish in the top 20 individually. Concordia was also ninth in the first GPAC Qualifier of the season.

Concordia University was voted 11th in the Great Plains Athletic Conference women’s soccer preseason poll. Dordt College was selected as the favorite for the 2009 women’s soccer season with 138 points and nine first-place votes followed by Hastings College with 135 points and three first-place votes. Concordia finished with 36 points in the poll.

MBB: Cardinals down Bulldogs for 2nd CIT title
The Concordia University-Ann Arbor Cardinals used a 10-0 run to open the second half and held on for a 64-58 victory over the Concordia University, Nebraska Bulldogs in the 56th annual Concordia Invitational Tournament championship game.

MBB: Buhr buries six triples in CIT win
The Concordia University, Nebraska men’s basketball team picked up their fourth win of the season, 66-47, over Concordia University Chicago on the opening day of the 56th Annual Concordia Invitational Tournament (CIT) being held in Ann Arbor, Mich., on the campus of Concordia University Ann Arbor.
