Concordia dedicated its new Health, Human Performance and Athletic Center with a ceremony during homecoming festivities, Oct. 10.

"Today we celebrate the culmination of years of prayer and planning, construction and fundraising as we dedicate this marvelous facility," said Rev. Dr. Brian Friedrich, university president. "At the very heart of this building is a deep and abiding commitment to prepare students to learn, to study and to serve within the church and world."

The new facility includes five classrooms/labs, offices for professors and coaches, performance arena with seating for more than 2,500 spectators, Hall of Fame display, weight room, training room, lounges, locker rooms, storage and concession areas.

"This place addresses our current needs and accommodates our vision for the future," said Scott Seevers, Concordia's vice president for enrollment management, student services and athletics. "From top to bottom, front to back, this place is distinguished by excellence."

Currently in the works is a field house containing a 200-meter track and a multipurpose infield. When completed, it will be one of only two indoor 200-meter tracks in Nebraska. Tennis, baseball, softball, golf and track teams will all have practice space in this section of the facility. Fundraising for this feature of the HHPAC continues.

While the HHPAC itself could be seen under construction for the past two years, Concordia saved a few moments of drama for the HHPAC's dedication day. The university took the wraps off of a 500-pound bulldog sculpture that stands in the HHPAC lobby and also announced that Concordia was the all-time leader in Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes.
