Concordia University pulled away for an 82-54 women’s basketball win over York College on Friday evening in Seward. The Bulldogs, who led from start to finish, improved to 4-1 on the season with the win. York College dropped to 3-3 on the year with the loss.
Concordia jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead and gradually pulled away throughout the opening half of play. Concordia took a 39-28 lead into halftime. In the first half, the Bulldogs scored 21 points off York College turnovers. The Concordia bench also outscored the York College bench 15-0 in the first 20 minutes.
A quick 8-0 run early in the second half increased the Bulldog lead to 47-30. York College was unable to mount a rally, and Concordia settled for the 82-54 win. The Bulldogs scored 22 points in the paint and added 15 points off York College turnovers in the second half of play.
Concordia hit 29-of-67 shots in the game for 43.8 percent. The Bulldogs were 8-of-15 (53.3 percent) from the three point line and 16-of-19 (84.2 percent) from the free throw line in the win. The Concordia defense was solid, as the Panthers turned the ball over 32 times on the evening.
Stacy Scheer and Kristin Miller each had 13 points to lead a balanced scoring attack for the Bulldogs. Katie Rich added 10 points and a team-high five rebounds, and Treva Nutter had nine points. Angela Kuca scored eight points, while Kathryn Ommen and Amber Quinn added seven points apiece for Concordia.
York College hit 22-of-46 shots for 47.8 percent. The Panthers were 3-of-9 from the three point line and 4-of-6 from the free throw line. Kristin Wiedemann had a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds for York College in a losing effort. Lorena Medeiros added 12 points for the Panthers.
Concordia travels to the College of St. Mary for a 7 p.m. contest on Nov. 16.
