#22 Concordia University, 78 York College 50
The No. 22 Concordia University women’s basketball team opened the season with a convincing 78-50 win over York College over the weekend. Three players scored in double figures as the Bulldogs cruised to the easy win.
Concordia used solid defense and hot shooting from the three point line to take a 44-24 lead into halftime. The Bulldogs were 8-of-15 (53.3%) from the three point line in the opening half of play and forced several York College turnovers to jump out to the big lead. For the game, York College turned it over 27 times compared to just 12 for Concordia.
Stacy Scheer, Katie Rich and Angela Kuca all scored 10 points to lead the way offensively. Beth Kohmetscher added nine points, and Kristin Miller had eight points in a balanced attack for Concordia. Rich and Brittany Johnson each grabbed a team-high six rebounds for the Bulldogs.
Carrie Berger had a game-high 20 points to go along with five assists to lead the way for York College. Juliana Bassetto added 10 points, while Lorena Medeiros scored eight points and pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds for the Panthers.
Concordia hosts Bethany College on Tuesday evening in a 6 p.m. contest at the Health, Human Performance and Athletic Center.
