Three incoming freshman wrestlers are slated to compete in the prestigious Nebraska Scholastic Wrestling Coaches Association East-West All-Star Classic on Saturday, June 20, in Beatrice, Neb. The meet annually brings together the best high school wrestlers from Nebraska in an East versus West dual. The 2009-10 Concordia Bulldog wrestling team will be represented by Seth Kubik, Brandon Starkey and Alex Rostvet.
“These are quality wrestlers and quality individuals,” noted Concordia head wrestling coach Doug Reese. “These three kids will be our future GPAC champions and NAIA All-Americans. I am very excited that they all decided to become Bulldogs."
Kubik placed second this season in the Nebraska State Wrestling Tournament, capping off a senior season with a 34-2 record. While at Auburn High School (Auburn, Neb.) he posted a prep career record of 116-12 and was a four-time state qualifier. Kubik will wrestle for the East All-Stars at 157 pounds.
Wrestling for the West All-Stars are a pair of three-time state medalists: Starkey from St. Paul, Neb., and Rostvet from Adams Central High School in Hastings, Neb. Starkey placed second in the 2009 State Wrestling Tournament, posting a 40-4 season record. His career wrestling record stands at 142-29. Starkey will wrestle at 149 pounds.
Rostvet, who is set to wrestle at 141 pounds, placed fourth in the state tournament and compiled a 42-7 record during his senior season. Rostvet posted a career mark of 137-43.
