Two standout basketball players, guards Brady Firley and Adam McManigal, have signed athletic scholarships to play for the Bulldogs. Concordia University, Nebraska coach Grant Schmidt made the announcement Thursday.
"Brady and Adam are excited to join our program and we're definitely excited to have them," Schmidt said. "Each of them will bring something to the table that we need next year at their positions."
At Deshler High School, Firley was a first-team all-conference honoree and team most valuable player during his senior year. He was all-conference honorable mention his junior and senior years as well as being named the teams top newcomer his freshman year.
Academically, Firley was on the Deshler High School honor roll all four years and was a member of the National Honor Society his junior and senior years.
At Verdigre and Creighton High Schools, McManigal was a two-time first-team all-conference honoree and team offensive player of the year during his senior year. He was also honorable mention all-state according to Huskerland Prep, the Omaha World-Herald and the Lincoln Journal Star.
McManigal finished the season averaging 14.1 points per game, 10 rebounds per game, and 3.6 assists per game.
Academically, McManigal was also an honor roll student at Verdigre High School.
Firley and McManigal join a recruiting class that includes Corey Barnes (Custer County H.S.), Gage Bender (Columbus Lakeview H.S.), Porter Birtell (Wayne State College), Paul Fortmeyer (Central H.S.), Phil Friedrich (Seward H.S), Brent Houchin (Bruning-Davenport H.S.), Ryan Railey (Northeastern J.C.), and Matt Wagnitz (Heartland Lutheran H.S.).
Concordia finished the 2008-09 season in the semifinals of the Great Plains Athletic Conference Basketball tournament with a record of 20-12.
