The Concordia University softball team dropped a pair of GPAC games to Morningside College Friday afternoon at the Jensen Softball Complex in Sioux City, Iowa. The Mustangs took game one 5-1 before finishing the sweep with a 3-0 victory in game two.
In game one the Bulldogs outhit the Mustangs 7-6 but stranded eight runners on base. Clarissa Eloge scored the only run with a leadoff homerun in the top of the fifth inning. Laura Fugate added a pair of doubles to lead the Bulldog offense. Courtney Thomas picked up the loss for the Bulldogs, throwing a complete game. She give up five runs (all earned) on six hits.
Game two was a pitching duel. Concordia's Nicole Sempek kept the Mustangs' offense in check, holding Morningside to three runs (two earned) on just four hits. Unfortunately for Sempek the Bulldog offense was held to just one hit through the game and couldn't score. Concordia fell 3-0, and Sempek picked up just her second loss of the season.
The Bulldogs are now 10-11 overall and 5-5 in the GPAC. Morningside moves to 17-12 and 7-1 in the GPAC.
Concordia's doubleheader scheduled for Saturday has been postponed with no make-up date set at this time.
